THE PINNACLE OF KNOWLEDGE

One day, a messenger from a King, Kings, or Royalty came seeking a man (or woman) to ascend the pinnacle of knowledge and see what is there. The first man that he found accepted the mission and climbed to the top of the mountain. After the first man had gazed upon the entire world, the messenger asked "What do you see?"
The first man replied "I see everthing! But I shall jump! My faith will make me fly even higher."
So the first man jumped from the cliff, and just before he jumped he said "Thus I have acheived the highest form of truth! Follow me!"

(The story could end here ...............)

But when he could not show or convince the messenger, he tried to grab the messenger and take him off the side of the cliff. The terrified messenger was too scared to go, and ran back down the mountain.

After this, the messenger looked for a second man. Out of the villagers who were at the foot of the mountain, he found a second man who agreed to ascend the mountain. So the second man ascended the mountain, and overlooked the entire world.
"What do you see,?" asked the messenger.
The second man replied "I see the dead body of the first man! He was a bloody liar and would have been a murderer had you followed him!"

(The story could end here ...............)

And so the messenger followed him to see the body, but the mountaintop was being filled with clouds and fog, and he could not seethe body of the first man, nor could he see the reason why he had jumped. But all the while, the messenger noticed the second man eyeing him to see whether or not he would jump. The man was also watching to see if the messenger would try to grab him and take him off the side of the cliff.
As the messenger was about to walk away, the second man beckoned the messenger "Come, stay here with me, at the highest pinnacle of knowledge!"
But the messenger didn't want to stay, since everthing around him was thick fog.
After a slight argument, the second man obliged "Okay, if you like, I have no problem with you going down the mountain, butwhatever you do don't jump, because you will certainly die!"
Thus the messenger came down from the mountain.

When he got to the foot of the mountain, the messenger came accross a farmer who asked him what he was doing.
"I'm trying to find out what is at the Pinnacle of Knowlege."
"You mean what is at the top of that mountain?" replied the farmer "I've been there myself."
The messenger was shocked, but he continued "I took a man with me, but he refuses to come down. He wants me to stay there with him."
The farmer answered "He does not truly understand. Though I appear not to know, it is I who know all. I know the mountain very well."
And so the messenger asked "What did you see at the Pinnacle of Knowledge?"
The farmer answered "Though I can tell you, you will not truly know unless you see it for yourself."
"Do I want to know?" Asked the messenger.
The farmer replied, "Although I wish I could answer you, I must ask that you look for an answer to that question within yourself: do
YOU want to know? If so, then climb the mountain."

(The story could end here ...............)

So the messenger decided that he would not climb, at least for today. While talking, the farmer had invited him to sleep at his house,
and the messenger had obliged, deciding to think over what he had seen so that he could make a report to the King.

On the following morning, the messenger met another man,and asked him for his wisdom.
He asked, "Have you ever climbed the Pinnacle of Knowledge?"
The man replied, "No, and all of those who have are all fools for trudging up and down barren rock and claiming to know all things
in the Universe. I don't know much, but I know the most because it is I alone who have not climbed the mountain, and wasted my time."

(The story could end here ...............)

With his duties finished, the messenger returned to his King and dutifully reported all of what he had seen.
The King carefully listed, and thought deeply as the messenger spoke.

When he had finished, the King asked him:
"What do you think was at the Pinnacle of knowledge?"
The messenger replied, "I don't know. Had I been like the first or the second man, I wouldn't even be here before you."
And the King asked "Was the mountain high?"
The messenger replied "Undoubtably yes."
The kind continued "But you are not sure that it IS the one and only Pinnacle of Knowlege?"
"Yes, your majesty." replied the messenger, in complete honesty.

Suddenly the King smiled and said. "Good work," and he suddenly ordered "Let a Castle be built around the mountain, and let the four men
who the messenger spoke about (or their sons and daughters) become four generals, one for each direction: North, South, East, and West.
Let them guard the Pinnacle of Knowlege in all directions and let our flag waive at every corner of the fort. From this Mountain we shall rule the world."

"If I may humbly speak," said the messenger, "aren't you curious what is at the Pinnacle of Knowledge?"

And the King replied "No. A mountain, is but a mountain. This throne is the true pinnacle of knowledge. Let the scholars climb what looks like the mountain, but it shall be none other than msyelf standing where the truth is."

So it was done, exactly as the King had ordered, and many wise men tried to ascend the pinnacle from each of the Four directions, or maybe more.

(The story could end here ...............)

So how is it that we know about what happened? Well, it is because after the King grew old and died, the messenger became a scholar, and wrote a book entitled "The Pinnacle of Knowledge."

On the last page he wrote "and well, who knows for sure. I don't claim to know everything, but I wish that someone would follow in my steps and possibly also write a book."

Was the messenger a fool for not knowing, even after speaking to everyone, or the true sage who had discovered deep wisdom? Were all of these men sages?

Reading the book, and his head filled with questions, yet another man decided to ascend the Pinnacle of Knowledge.....and see for himself.

Now, the story finally comes to an end....I hope you liked it.

Strange that theater is so high. Lately I've been wondering what it means to be social. I'm slightly depressed so I figured I'll take some of these surveys for fun.

You have spent your life trying to life up to and impress your Dad, shame he never seemed to notice. You are a stickler for the rules. But in matters of loyalty and honour you know when they have to be broken.
